Our Practice in Saskatoon

Dr. Jill Gryschuk was born and raised in Saskatoon, SK. She completed her Bachelor of Science degree in physiology at the University of Saskatchewan in 2008. She then went on to obtain her Doctor of Optometry degree in 2013 from the Indiana University School of Optometry graduating with high honours.

During the course of her studies, she completed internships in Indianapolis, IN, Orlando, FL, and a Veterans Clinic in North Florida. She also completed a specialty contact lens training program in Jacksonville, FL.

Dr. Gryschuk started at InVision Eye Care in the summer of 2013 and is very happy to be back in her home city to practice optometry. Recently, she had the privilege of becoming a partner of the practice when Dr. Robinson, after 36 years of service, decided to step down. She is honoured that Dr. Robinson would trust in her the care of her patients and is excited for this new chapter in her life as not only an optometrist—but also as a business owner.

Dr. Gryschuk enjoys all aspects of optometry and is happy to see patients of any age. She has a specific interest in dry eye management and contact lenses.

In her spare time, Dr. Gryschuk enjoys spending time with family and friends playing board games or cheering for her favourite sports teams. She likes to stay active by running (hoping to complete a marathon soon) and playing slo-pitch in the summers.

Dr. Courtney Tolhurst (Maltman) was born in Saskatoon, SK, and raised in Regina, SK. She completed her Bachelor of Science degree in cellular and molecular biology at the University of Regina where she graduated with great distinction. She continued her studies at the University of Waterloo’s School of Optometry and graduated from the Doctor of Optometry program on the Dean’s Honours List.

Dr. Tolhurst completed an ocular disease and therapeutics externship at the Jack C. Montgomery Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Muskogee, Oklahoma. During this externship, she diagnosed, treated, and managed a wide range of eye diseases including glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, cataracts, and age-related macular degeneration. 

In July 2013, Dr. Tolhurst travelled to Chiapa de Corzo, Mexico, to take part in an eye care mission trip with the Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity (VOSH) organization. VOSH is a nonprofit, international organization that provides ocular health and vision care services to thousands of people who would otherwise be without eye care. This was an amazing experience, and Dr. Tolhurst hopes to be involved in more eye care mission trips throughout her career!

In her spare time, Dr. Tolhurst loves spending time with her family and friends, exploring the outdoors, and travelling. She has been actively involved in both the Highland dance and soccer communities throughout her life. Dr. Tolhurst enjoys all aspects of primary care optometry and is very excited to be practicing in her home province of Saskatchewan. She looks forward to caring for the eyes of your entire family!

Dr. Katie Leidl received her Bachelor of Science Degree in 2010 from Iowa Wesleyan College while playing on the women’s volleyball team. She went on to achieve her Doctorate of Optometry with Honours from the University of Waterloo in 2014 while being a sports representative for her class. Being involved in different optometric volunteer programs gave Katie the opportunity to provide eye care to people in Ecuador and Malawi. Katie grew up in Esterhazy, Saskatchewan and started her career in Yorkton before moving to Saskatoon in 2018. She loves being able to provide personalized eye care to families.

Outside the office, Katie enjoys the outdoors, sports, and spending time with her young family.

Dr. Dorothy Barrie is originally from Regina, SK. She graduated from the University of Regina with a B.Sc. (Honours) in biochemistry, and a B.Sc. in chemistry. She went on to obtain her optometry degree at the University of Waterloo, graduating in 1990.

Dr. Barrie has a special interest in contact lenses, and even fit contact lenses on chickens while in university! She has served on the council of the Saskatchewan Association of Optometrists, and was the first female president of the association, from 2001–2003.

Dr. Barrie has received the Member of the Year award in an existing business from Women Entrepreneurs of Saskatchewan and has been nominated in Saskatoon as a Woman of Distinction. She has received an Optometrist of the Year Award from the Saskatchewan Association of Optometrists, as well as the President’s Award.

Dr. Barrie is a life-long learner, and graduated from the MBA program at the University of Saskatchewan in 2009. She was on the board of Horizon Laser Vision Centre for 10 years and has been a professional development consultant for Alcon Canada. She is chair of the Children’s Vision Initiative in Saskatchewan, a program which works to ensure all children have a complete eye health and vision exam prior to kindergarten.Her office operates an optometric clinic within St. Mary’s and Confederation Schools in Saskatoon. She recently celebrated her 25th year in private optometric practice in Saskatoon. She enjoys all areas of optometric practice, and has a special interest in dry eye management, contact lenses, nutrition and eye health, and low vision. She is an avid reader and is active with her 2 children, Ryan and Stephanie, their Labradoodle, Charlie, and Cat, Phoenix. She has found hot yoga is her favourite thing to do when she needs to recharge!
